The General Assembly Building at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City is where 193 Member States meet annually to vote on international matters brought to the General Assembly, the main policy-making organ of the UN. For the reroof, a Siplast SBS-modified roof system and NVS lightweight insulating concrete (LWIC) were selected as the solutions to help facilitate minimal interruption to the UN General Assembly Hall’s operations.

As a 9-1-1 emergency call hub, the Alachua County Combined Communications facility services 227,000+ residents locally, as well as the population of the University of Florida. With staff in the building 24 hours a day, 7 days a week responding to urgent and critical situations, safety and reliability were obvious concerns. However, serving the community didn’t stop there, as project stakeholders also wanted a roofing solution that would help them meet their environmental goals for years to come.

When it came time to reroof the Dougherty County Jail, the Board of Commissioners faced two primary challenges: complete the project without interrupting facility operations and select a solution that was both cost-effective and environmentally responsible. The building’s size and secure nature made traditional tear-off and replacement strategies impractical—calling for a smarter, phased approach that would minimize disruption and waste.
